Kate Mulvany & Anne-Louise Sarks. Original concept by Anne-Louise Sarks after Euripides
Presented in association with Auckland Live.
This is Medea, but not as we know it.
Onstage, a typical kid’s bedroom. Two brothers play, bicker and wonder under the watchful gaze of goldfish Cornelius, Hector the teddy bear and a carpet of stars on their bedroom ceiling.
Offstage rages the fateful duel that has been retold for thousands of years. Medea’s back is against the wall and she’s about to draw her sons into the story.
Created by Australian theatre-makers Kate Mulvany and Anne-Louise Sarks, the award- winning Medea offers an astonishing retelling of Euripides’ classic, focussing on two perspectives that weren’t heard the first time around. This is a joyful and achingly tender observation of childhood, and a reminder of our responsibility to those most vulnerable.
In a first for Silo, the cast of Medea will be led by kids.
