The Words & Music of Jacques Brel
Presented in collaboration with the Edge.
Jacques Brel wrote music rich with a mid-20th century European sensibility that still manages to be timeless. He wrote over 300 songs in his lifetime; his music has been performed by legends including David Bowie, Nina Simone, Leonard Cohen and Martha Wainwright. Dark, sardonic, passionate, witty, revolutionary – his musical narrative forms a life-affirming take on the human condition.
In 2005, Silo’s first celebration of his work triggered a box office frenzy. Not for love or money could you get a seat. This new production, specifically created for the mighty Concert Chamber, will see Brel’s kaleidoscope of lives lived retreated in a unique mashup of theatre and contemporary music, with a kickass band led by wunderkind Leon Radojkovic.
Profound. Intimate. Bold. Cabaret noir.
